AI Research with NotebookLM

Upload your documents. Ask questions. Get source-grounded answers with citations. Zero hallucinations. Powered by Google Gemini.

What is NotebookLM?

NotebookLM is Google's AI research tool that only answers from documents you upload. Unlike ChatGPT or Claude, it never makes up information. Every response includes direct quotes and page references from your actual sources. Think of it as a research assistant that has read everything you have — and remembers all of it.

It supports PDFs, Google Docs, web pages, YouTube videos, and audio files. Each notebook holds up to 50 sources with 500,000 words of content. You can create unlimited notebooks for free with a Google account.

Research Workflow

1

Upload Sources

Add PDFs, Google Docs, web pages, YouTube videos, and audio files to a notebook. Up to 50 sources, 500K words.

2

Ask Questions

Query across all sources simultaneously. NotebookLM synthesizes and cites every claim with source references.

3

Follow Up

Drill into specific topics with targeted questions. Each answer stays grounded in your uploaded documents.

4

Export to Claude

Feed findings to Claude Code for blog posts, reports, or documentation. Source-backed content in minutes.

Best Practices

One notebook per project
Keep research focused. Mixing unrelated documents reduces answer quality.
Upload primary sources
NotebookLM works best with original research papers, reports, and documentation — not summaries of summaries.
Ask specific questions
"What does the data show about Q4 revenue growth?" beats "Tell me about the report."
Use follow-up chains
Start broad ("What are the key findings?"), then narrow ("What evidence supports finding #2?").
Export and synthesize
Copy NotebookLM answers to Claude Code for writing polished articles, reports, or presentations.
